Deviating from the often-static format of the oral history exhibition, Pocket Archive [Oral History with Peter Polley], is a project that experiments with alternative ways of presenting and interacting with testimonials and interviews in a gallery setting.
Part character snap-shot and part conceptual archive, the box opens up to reveal interactive gallery-like ‘walls' surrounding a central panel containing an interview on a digital recorder. Combining interview and artefact with gestures of collecting and archiving, this work invites audience members to listen to the recording while mimicking processes of archiving: sorting through artefacts, photographs, handwritten notes, and other ephemera.
